As the world shut down during the pandemic, our vulnerable community members find themselves stuck at home without necessary protection or adequate resources/adequate pay. We at Debes were all wondering what is going to happen to those who are digitally illiterate to be able to communicate to the outside world, get service, and survive.

In 2020/2021, a health crisis cost the life of seven of the community members, and this crisis created a big chore for the rest of the family members (ex. Experiencing homelessness due to funeral and related expenses). Debes’s helped through our funeral and related services assistance program to cover their Burial service bills. Consequently, Debes started providing critical support to all king county emerging communities right away. Debes is in a mission so that no one is left standing alone during this challenging time. That is why we are consistently engaged with the communities being able to initiate novel projects to support our mission like,

-Health education/eradicate illiteracy, work to increase Technological access, and connect to resources. (Debes provided three digital literacy sessions to seniors)

DEBES is an Eritrean language term that refers to the material or cash tribute as well as moral consolation given to members of deceased household by relatives & other members of the community.

You want an agency to effectively be able to tap into our mission and get involved. Debes is here, and all your active generosity is welcome. Here is how: ONLINE:
